Successful completion of the taught component of the programme qualifies candidates to receive the Postgraduate Diploma. Those who attain an overall minimum of 50% in their assessed work may proceed to an MSc, undertaking a final sound design project over the summer. This will account for one third of the degree.

The course is a one-year full-time programme that gains its impetus from a series of structured design-oriented projects. So the course is highly practical but with a strongly reflective and theoretical component that draws on contemporary philosophical and cultural themes. This makes both the MSc in Sound Design unique. Students will be expected to spend at least 10 hours per week on project work outside of formal study time. The Courses “Media and Culture” and “Digital Media Studio Project” are shared with the MSc in Design and Digital Media, MSc Digital Composition and Performance and MSc in Acoustics and Music Technology.
